The NWGA offers a variety of activities in a safe, supportive, and comfortable environment for members, spouses, and friends to socialize with each other. Some activities are private and protected while others are more public. Participants are able to select activities that match their own levels of experience, self-confidence, and comfort. We welcome suggestions and proposals for new activities to meet the needs of our growing membership.
The Saturday Open Meeting provides opportunities for members and prospective members to meet and socialize. Often a portion of a meeting is set aside for a demonstration, discussion, movie, or workshop on a variety of topics related to gender expression. This event is held at the Q Center, located at 4115 N. Mississippi Ave, Portland, OR 97217, on the second Saturday or every month at two pm. Bathrooms are available if you wish to change before or after the meeting. Often times, attendees go out to dinner afterward.Our Tuesday night dinners is held at Elmer's Restaurant, located at 10001 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97220. The dinner occurs on the third Tuesday of every month at Seven PM. Elmer's has a nice menu for you to choose from.Other special events occur during the year and will be advertised in our newsletter, Yahoo Group, and Facebook Group. These can be Fashion Show/Tea Parties held in the early spring, Summer Bar-B-Que, Harvest dinner held in the fall. There is no charge for these events.
In December we have our Annual Awards Dinner, were we recognize the contributions of people in our community. The reservation form will be made available in the fall, and there is a modest charge for the event.NWGA is a co-sponsor of Esprit, an annual transgender convention for the CD and TS community, as well as their partners and spouses.
We also sponsor the Portland Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th to remember those who were killed in the last year
The NWGA endorses the Portland Trans Pride March that happens in June.
